St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton Partners with Precise ParkLink to Deliver Sustainable Bike Parking for Staff

For immediate release.

Friday, May 26, 2023

In collaboration with Precise ParkLink, St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton is the first hospital in the Niagara region to convert a shipping container for staff bicycle storage. Located at the West 5th campus, this new facility offers staff who bike to work a safe and secure storage option, all while supporting St. Joe's commitment to environmental sustainability and stewardship across the healthcare system.

St. Joe’s continues to focus on its commitment to sustainability within its community. It remains a leader in creating plans, products and programs that are balanced environmentally, socially and economically, making it only natural for them to opt for a green solution for staff bike parking. As a valued partner, Precise ParkLink took this opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to going above and beyond to meet ever-changing parking and mobility needs while having the environment at the forefront.

With a focus on enhancing healthcare worker wellness, the new secure storage facility is an added benefit. Staff swipe their ID badge to gain access, hang their bicycle on a rack, and slide the locks closed. Additional safety features include an automatic door locking the facility, optimal lighting 24/7, a large plexiglass window that lets you know your surroundings, and a panic button beside the facility.

The new storage facility has proven to be a valuable addition to the West 5th campus. The hospital celebrated its grand opening on May 24 with Precise ParkLink, community cycling partners and staff in attendance. Saumya Gautum, Director, Organization Development, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, Healthcare Worker Wellness at St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton, stated "Since its opening in winter 2022, we have already seen great participation and regular usage of our secure bike parking facility. We already know about the many benefits of biking: it’s good for your physical health, it reduces carbon emissions and saves money and time spent on commuting. We hope this unique facility will inspire others in the community to implement similar solutions, and that staff will continue to benefit from this fantastic partnership we have with Precise ParkLink.”

“I bike to work every day and am so grateful that I have a safe place to store my bike with the launch of St. Joe’s new staff bike parking,” said Dr. Darren Chai, Resident Physician in Psychiatry at St. Joe’s and a regular user of the bike parking. “Since I stopped driving to work I’ve noticed that I am more focused, motivated and cheerful. Although I would still ride to work anyways, I love the fact that the hospital is encouraging staff to engage in active, healthy lifestyles by reducing barriers to alternative methods of commuting.”

Tony Memme, Client Relations Manager at Precise ParkLink, stated, “We are proud to have partnered with St. Joe’s on this forward-thinking initiative. Not only will this provide staff with a secure storage option for their bikes, it is also reinforces the hospitals commitment to environmental sustainability.”

Precise ParkLink looks forward to continuing to support the four pillars of environmental sustainability in healthcare—environmental, social, economic, and health—alongside St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton.
