License Plate Recognition Systems

About the Technology

License Plate Recognition (LPR) systems use a specialized camera to capture an image of vehicles entering or exiting a parking facility; through their backend image-processing and character-recognition software, they identify vehicles by their license plate to determine access privileges, tabulate parking rates, and aid with enforcement.

This technology is compatible with both gated and non-gated parking control solutions. In a non-gated configuration, the LPR technology is paired with both the payment and the enforcement technologies to provide alerts to patrollers when a vehicle enters your facility and does not have a valid parking session registered against its license plate (e.g., a payment is not processed within a predetermined time frame, like 15 minutes for example, or doesn’t have a valid permit.

PRECISE PARKLINK’S LPR INTEGRATIONS

Precise ParkLink has worked closely with its LPR suppliers to develop, test, and implement a number of key improvements. Some of these significant enhancements include the following:

  • View license plate images and manually edit incorrectly captured plate numbers within the system backend

  • Define LPR-captured and OCR-processed character dimensions, to avoid mis-captures like the province name as the license plate

  • Vehicles of interest rules, like those to deny entry or notify enforcement of the arrival of vehicles of interest

  • Tracking if a vehicle has entered the parking facility multiple times over a short period of time (e.g., taxis)

  • Implementation of exit-via-license-plate to create a truly ticketless solution in gated configurations
