Can Your Parking System Weather The Storm?
1.5 min read
Extreme weather conditions are hardly unusual in Canada. We see everything from heavy rain, to extreme cold, to sweltering heat and humidity. That’s why it’s crucial to invest in parking equipment that can withstand these fluctuating conditions.
First things first: when investing in parking equipment with enclosures, one of your basic requirements should be the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) 3R.
NEMA 3R is the rating assigned to indoor and outdoor equipment that features a strong protection from water and moisture, including windblown rain and snow, and ice that can form on the enclosure.
What temperature and humidity ranges should parking equipment in Canada be able to tolerate? The chart below is a guide outlining acceptable ranges for the main parking equipment categories installed across Canada: gated parking systems, multi-space parking meters, and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.
While the ranges above can be used as general guidelines, it’s a smart idea to ask your parking equipment supplier about non-standard configurations and hardware add-ons that can enhance operating ranges beyond the high or low ends of the ranges above. Examples of hardware integrations may include internal heaters, thermostats and protective coverings and shelters.
