What Are the Top 3 Features You Should Consider When Investing in Licence Plate Recognition?
Q&A with Senior Systems Engineer Jai Bansal
As parking technologies continue to advance, your facility needs to follow suit. Frictionless technologies such as licence plate recognition allow you to get more out of your parking program than ever before.
Precise ParkLink’s Senior Systems Engineer, Jai Bansal, shares the top 3 features to consider when investing in licence plate recognition technology.
Q. What Are the Top 3 Features You Should Consider When Investing in Licence Plate Recognition?
A. There are three key considerations when investing in LPR technology. The first and arguably most critical component to consider is the type of camera that is being used. An LPR system’s camera should have the ability to work in a wide range of lighting conditions (IR capability) and have an abundance of valuable features such as auto-focus, privacy masking, digital inputs/outputs, control of gain and more. You will also want to analyze the different ways the cameras can be mounted to determine what would work best with the layout of your facility.
The next most crucial feature you need to consider is the type of back-end algorithm used to detect the licence plate and the computing requirements.
Finally, the last feature to consider is the accuracy of the LPR software. Ensuring an LPR system’s software has optical character recognition, and a read range of 90% will ensure that your system can keep up with the movement of vehicles into and out of your facility.
